WORKING AT WHIPPS

Nursing and Midwifery

Whipps Cross is committed to the provision of high quality nursing care to meet the needs of individuals and our local community.  We work in partnership with our colleagues and other agencies, users and carers to meet the ever-changing demands of health care delivery, as outlined in our local strategy for nursing “Caring through change” and the national plan.

At Whipps Cross, nursing and midwifery is at the forefront of clinical decision making and is therefore influential in changing and improving the model of healthcare provision to best meet future patient care needs.  This structure has been strengthened with the introduction of our Heads of Nursing (Modern Matrons).

We strongly believe nurses and midwives will provide excellence of care having developed clinical competence and the confidence to meet the challenges of the modernisation agenda for the NHS. We have introduced robust development programmes for middle grade nurses, nurturing and facilitating their development into more senior posts.  For our more senior staff, there are a wide range of management courses ranging from short courses on the management of finances and performance, through to postgraduate diploma in management.  Opportunities are in place for all of our nursing and midwifery staff to undertake degree level pathways in their chosen specialities.

Whipps Cross is able to offer jobs in clinical areas assessing trained staff in the care of patients.  These job roles range from helping qualified staff in providing basic nursing care to patients in a ward setting, through to assisting doctors in the examination of patients.

We recognise that staff require training in assessing patient care and we have a strong commitment to the development of our non-qualified nursing and midwifery staff ensuring that their individual development needs are met.  We are able to offer placements on the cadet-nursing scheme, in-house service pathway for Healthcare Support Workers and have strong links with the local refugee council offering the opportunity for people from the local community to enter nurse training.
