What we do

Whipps Cross University Hospital is a cancer unit within the North East London Cancer Network. We are also the specialist cancer unit in the network area for urology cancers.

All patients with suspected or diagnosed cancer are under the care of a multidisciplinary team (MDT). The MDT includes oncologists (cancer doctors), medical doctors, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, clinical nurse specialists, allied health professionals, social workers and MDT coordinators/data managers.  This team will work together to provide you with the best possible care.

Often cancer care is shared with other regional hospitals. People diagnosed with cancer at Whipps Cross may also receive some treatment at a regional cancer centre such as Barts and the London NHS Trust.

At Whipps Cross University Hospital we provide diagnosis, treatment and care for patients with the following:

In line with national targets, patients with suspected cancer symptoms who are referred urgently by their GP are seen within two weeks by a specialist at Whipps Cross. We work to ensure that if cancer is diagnosed treatment begins within 31 days of the decision to treat. If you want to know more about national cancer treatment targets go to the Department of Health Website
