Clinical Research Unit

What we do

We undertake research projects for new medical treatments.

The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is a new initiative that the Trust has established to provide the infrastructure and support that researchers need to successfully undertake clinical research.

We are supported by the Trust with the aim to be self -funding within two years. Income will be generated through commercial and non-commercial research activity.

The CRU provides dedicated clinical space comprising:

  • Six beds
  • Eight reclining chairs
  • Interview rooms
  • Office space
  • Basic lab with fridges/freezers and essential equipment required for clinical trials.
  • Open workspace for researchers with use of IT, fax and telephone facilities.

The CRU also provides space for the Rheumatology Research team.

The unit is managed by the Research and Development Department and supported by a Clinical Research Unit manager and a full-time research nurse.

We can help researchers by:

  • Approaching commercial companies and research sponsors.
  • Negotiating contracts and managing financial arrangements.
  • Support and project management when undertaking clinical trials.
  • Advice and guidance including R&D, ethics and regulatory approvals.
