How to get treatment

To get an appointment with the Psychiatric Liaison team you need to be referred by a hospital consultant, senior nurse or senior therapist.

We see patients aged 18 to 64 years.
Patients aged 65 and over should be referred to the Woodbury Unit next to the hospital site.

We do not accept referrals from GPs (General Practitioner's).

Hospital inpatients are offered the next available appointment with either a mental health liaison nurse or a psychiatrist specialising in the care of patients with physical illness.

Outpatient referrals are offered the next available appointment with whichever member of the team seems most appropriate based on the information provided in the referral.

Further Information

We work collaboratively with other health care professionals and services in responding to the needs of patients and promoting awareness of mental health in line with National Service Frameworks.

In addition to psychiatric assessment, we also provide a consultation service to medical and surgical specialities and develop links between Whipps Cross University Hospital and mental health services.
