General Surgery

What we do

General surgery (including emergency surgery) is provided by seven consultants and their teams. Each of the consultants specialises in one or more aspects of general surgery:

General and sub-specialty clinics are held throughout the week in the Outpatient Department at Whipps Cross and at Forest Medical Centre in Loughton.

Many patients requiring operations are treated as day-cases in our purpose-build Plane Tree Centre - the day surgery unit.

Those requiring admission for one or more nights are usually accommodated on Poplar, Primrose and Rowan Wards.

How to get treatment

To get an appointment with the General Surgery team you will need to be referred by your GP (General Practitioner).
