OUR DEPARTMENTS

Day Surgery - The Plane Tree Centre

What we do

We specialise in the provision of day surgery and investigative procedures where it is not necessary for patients to be admitted to hospital overnight.

The centre opened in 1995 and enhanced the delivery of day services. Our philosophy is putting the patient first, alongside education and empowerment of staff, patients and carers through learning.

We believe that high standards and quality of treatment and care are achieved and sustained when patient and carers are involved and given a sense of ownership.

We will continually seek the views of patients to ensure that the operation and functioning of the centre is informed by patient choice.

The centre is divided into two areas, a pre-operative area and post operative area.

There are two theatres and two procedure rooms where doctors perform operations and diagnostic procedures under general or local anaesthetic. Two endoscopy rooms where medical endoscopic procedures are carried out, one treatment room and two consulting rooms.

The types of surgery that are carried out in the centre include:

  • General surgery
  • Gynaecology
  • Urology
  • Orthopaedic
  • Oral surgery
  • Ear, Nose and Throat

Various clinics are also carried out in the centre including:

  • Pain clinic
  • Hysteroscopy clinic
  • Colposcopy clinic

Key staff at the Plane Tree Centre:

  • Dr Rees, Clinical Lead for Plane Tree/ Consultant Anaesthetist

Pre-operative Assessment
Before having any treatment at the Plane Tree Centre, you will need to attend a pre-operative assessment first to make sure you are fit and well. Please click on this link to go to our Pre-operative Assessment page.

During this assessment you will be given specific information about your operation or procedure.

Day Surgery
The average stay for patients is normally between six and eight hours, however this will depend on the operation or procedure. You will be given light refreshments (drinks and sandwiches) during your stay.

Patients having a general anaesthetic will need to arrange for someone to come and collect them.

Valuables
Please do not bring any valuables or large sums of money with you, we cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss of personal property.

Relatives/ carers
Your relative or carer are more than welcome to accompany you when coming in for treatment. However, if they come to the hospital by car, they will need to pay for parking. Car parking costs can be found by clicking on this link.

Prescription charges
Patients need to be aware that they may be given a prescription after their treatment. This can be collected from our pharmacy on site, however unless the patient has an exemption certificate, the standard prescription charge will apply.

Please ask the relative/friend/carer who is collecting you to make sure they bring some money to cover the prescription charge.
