Mum-to-be Carly Cole gives Whipps maternity appeal a big push!

16th October 2009

Pregnant Carly Cole (nee Zucker), married to England and Chelsea midfield footballer, Joe Cole, showed her support for Whipps Cross hospital’s Big Push maternity appeal this week. Carly was born at Whipps herself and is due to have her first child in March 2010.

Carly, 25, who appeared in last year’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! programme, visited the maternity unit at Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust in Leytonstone on Tuesday 13 October 2009 to meet with new mums and staff and to show her support for the appeal.

Built in the 1970s, the Maternity Unit at Whipps was designed for 2,500 births a year. But in 2008 our midwives delivered more than 5,000 babies – that’s 100 a week! The Big Push appeal aims to raise £350,000 for equipment and improvements in the maternity department.

Carly said: "As a Whipps Cross baby myself, and an expectant mum, this cause means a lot to me. I am proud to support the appeal, which will really make a difference to mums who will have their babies here.

“Coming here and meeting staff, new mums and their babies today has shown me the importance of the new equipment and resources the appeal will provide.  It will make a real difference to the experiences of the mothers who use the unit.

“I encourage everyone to make a donation, no matter how small, and help support The Big Push.”
