Health4nel consultation now extended!

22nd February 2010

STOP PRESS:  The consultation period has now been extended until 22 March 2010 - that's another month to get your views heard!

Whipps Cross Health4Nel Roadshow on Wednesday 24th February 2010 - come along to complete your consultation questionnaire.

The Health4nel (Healthcare for North East London) review will result in a set of options about the future provision of health services in the sector which will form part of a public consultation process in the coming months.

All NHS organisations in NEL have committed to working together on the review to support its the common aims of:

  • Improve the health of the whole population
  • Improve service quality as measured by access, quality standards, safety and patient experience
  • Meet all key national targets
  • Put clinicians in the driving seat for change
  • Ensure ongoing financial sustainability

There are four main reasons that change is required in NEL:

  • The need to prevent ill health
  • The need to improve care for people with long term conditions
  • Hospitals as we know them are not always the answer
  • There are challenges in the quality and efficiency of hospital services

What will the review mean for Whipps Cross?

As the review is in its early stages it is still unclear what direct impact it will have on Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust.

However it is clear that the review will result in a set of findings which in turn, will build on the Pan London consultation for stroke and major trauma provision which ended on 8 May 2009.

However the outcome of the Health4NEL review is especially relevant to Whipps Cross University Hospital as its outcome may have considerable bearing on our journey to achieving Foundation Trust status.

The Healkth4nel Roadshow can now make it's stop at Whipps!  Click here for what you can expect on the day.

Six Major Service Areas of the Health4NEL review

The six service areas within the review were formulated by the Medical Directors, PCT PEC Chairs and Acute Provider Trusts and were ratified by all NEL Chief Executives.

  • Urgent surgery
  • Urgent medicine
  • Children’s services
  • Maternity and newborn services
  • Specialist services
  • Planned care

Clinical Engagement

The case for change was developed with Medical Directors and PEC Chairs from October December 2008.

The review is clinically led and 45 clinicians from both primary care and hospitals are engaged in the workstreams.

Clinical working group members have been involving their colleagues in every organisation to gather, verify assumptions and discuss recommendations.

Senior clinicians and managers are making themselves available to explain the proposals and listen to your views. The LINKs are also helping PCTs to arrange events for members of the public.

This review is about improving local health services; ensuring people of north east London live a longer and happier life.

Public Consultation

The major public consultation was launched 30 November and will continue for 14 weeks until 8 March 2010.

The consultation will give local residents, patients, stakeholders and other interested organisations an opportunity to give their views on new proposals to significantly improve healthcare in their local communities.

Public meetings and roadshows will be held in every borough, to give members of the public the opportunity to find out about the proposals, ask questions and have their say.
